Let’s be honest, we want to be accommodating. We want to please our family, our clients, our business leaders, and our peers. It has been emphasized that customer service, manners, and professionalism tells a lot about our character, our business, and can reflect on those around us.
But have you allowed it to burden you? Are you taking on more than you should because you feel it’s your job – or is it because you just can’t say no? How much do you think your “yes,” could be holding you back from saying “Yes,” to opportunities that could be moving you closer to your dream?
No Boundary, No Backbone?
Boundaries keep us all in check. Boundaries are like fences; they keep us on our path and help us to know where we belong at any given time. Boundaries also help others know what we will, and will not, allow from others. Another wonderful aspect of boundaries, is they also tell others about our worth.
Learning to set our worth at just the right price – is one of the most important skills to master for both personal and professional growth. Setting your boundaries in the workplace will let others know that you value your time, and that you know how to prioritize it wisely.
One of the most important aspects of setting boundaries, is the ability to say no. Activities that you don’t enjoy, or that don’t advance us professionally, have no place in your life. Your time is precious.
Yessing Your Way Off the Path to Success
For most of us, saying no is extremely difficult. We turn ourselves inside out either to please others or because it’s easier to simply do the job ourselves. So, are you a pleaser, or is it easier to simply take control? Do you fail to delegate because you fear not being busy? Or do you just need help prioritizing because everything seems to be a priority?
Don’t “yes” your way away from success!
Say “no”, and reward yourself with time doing what matters most. Prioritize your day before your day starts and when it ends. Take a few minutes at the end of each day to plan tomorrow but don’t let those projects take over your life and don’t be afraid to say no.
By saying yes, you may be saying no to some very important opportunities. If your plate is too full, there’s no room for the unexpected! Learning to value yourself by placing a higher value on your time, will set you on the same path as the highly successful. Find out how by attending a Registered Corporate Coach Program.
