DISC® is about knowing yourself and growing in understanding and compassion for others. When we understand ourselves better, and understand how our thoughts and behaviors affect our daily interactions, we can then modify our behavior. We can see how we talk, how our body language, our voice inflections, and how our thoughts affect the world around us. We can even see how we find balance or create imbalance in the world around us.
It is this forgetting who we are, or not knowing, that causes imbalance in our lives. Forgetting what amazing beings we are and the gifts we can bring to every situation. It’s time to find balance and harmony between work and life.
Do You Listen to Your Intuition?
All too often, we shut down our gut instincts. It seems in the world of technology and advancement we have grown complacent to our own intuition.
We have learned to doubt that still small voice. I watched this happen in my own life – it separated me from a sense of self and family. This does not need to happen!
You have the years, work experience, and life experience behind you – there is plenty to draw from. You also have natural spirit that will grow louder as you find balance in your life. Applying DISC ® to your life allows you to know yourself better and find those deeper places within. You can now learn to be an active listener to your intuition!
Take time to listen to your own inner thoughts – your intuition. Secondly, listen to the comments made by those around you. Do they affirm your thoughts? If not, take a moment to invite the person to share their insight. You never know what you can glean from another point of view.
One of the most powerful gifts you can give anyone is the gift of listening. You add value to yourself and that individual by simply giving them time. This will then allow that individual confidence to speak another time when you may really need their wisdom! Besides, another point of view always adds value when it allows you to develop your positive critical thinking skills.
Start with yourself and then practice listening to others. Make it a game to strengthen your listening skills and see what happens.
Separate You-time & Community-Time
An important aspect of balance is knowing when it is time to shut down. I even need to be reminded at times that I need to stop – find a quiet moment in the day and allow myself to shut down. Your body and mind need to “take 5” or even ten. We are stimulated all the time by sight, sound, and even our own thoughts.
- Drive with the radio off once in awhile
- Sit in quiet with your eyes closed for 10 minutes (listen to your breathing)
- Power down 20/30 minutes before bed and listen to soothing music instead or read
- Take mini breaks throughout the day to be alone in a quiet place if needed
Give yourself the gift of quietness so you can hear the messages from your intuition.
Create community time too. We are human beings after all and we need contact!
Bring Spirit back into your business or family, it is important to bring people together. Have regular sessions with team members or family to share their thoughts with each other and with you. Make it an open forum setting. Allow for a “Say it/Fix it later” type of atmosphere. People can feel hindered when they don’t know how to communicate. When you help to moderate in an environment that feels open and safe – a sense of community takes over!
Allow team members and/or family an opportunity to express themselves and demonstrate their talents. If the members of your team love what they are doing, the workplace will thrive.
Exercise Your New Knowledge
Finally – Put your DISC® and Spirit to work! Start with a few of these simple steps and remind yourself to be present – to be here, today, in the moment. You have learned so much about yourself and those around you. With your new knowledge, you are now able to understand how you communicate or where to improve. You can also build upon the understanding of what DISC® brings to the table and have even more compassion for others.
Know your purpose, know why you are on this planet and then live your mission. Stressing, forcing a plan, worrying, will not bring you balance or peace. When you live and work for today, you will indeed be more successful than you have ever imagined.
It’s time to build with balance!
