Different personality styles are often the reason behind finding ourselves in the midst of a misunderstanding or an awkward situation, without a clue as to how we arrived there.
The good news is that with a little insight into personality styles, you can know who you are engaging with making it easier to maneuver through activities and conversations from the start.
Four Main Personality or Styles
Behavioral analysis is beneficial in identifying the four commonly recognized personality types, (known as the acronym DISC).
Our Everything DiSC® is a model of human behavior that helps people understand “why they do what they do” making it easy to recognize certain qualities and behaviors in the people around you, helping you to better understand how to approach and initialize conversation when the time comes.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the four personality styles:
- D: This style of personality is active, social, competitive, engaging.
- I: This high energy style is usually easy to recognize as they are highly vocal and verbal, socially outgoing, and engaging.
- S: A more quiet style, comfortable with one-on-one conversations, unlikely to engage those unknown to them, at ease with those they trust.
- C: Much like the S style in that C’s don’t engage readily with strangers, but require a sense of trust before warming up to others. Unless talking about something of interest, topics in which they are well-versed, they can appear to be quieter and more reflective.
Using these behavioral cues to identify those on your team will allow you to work more productively with everyone. After all, when an individuals’ style aligns with their work, everyone on the team benefits!
We’ll be sharing all the benefits of DiSC® at our DiSC® Train the Trainer event happening in Baltimore, Maryland on August 19, 2016.
